Col . Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro
Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro is a South Sudanese politician who has served as the governor of Western Equatoria beginning in 2010, prior to South Sudan’s independence. As a strong proponent of the interests of Western Equatorians and Equatorians in general, Col. Bangasi has had a contentious relationship with the federal government of South Sudan.
Col. Bangasi, who is viewed as peace-loving and naturally inclined to support National Dialogue, was briefly detained then released in 2015. Like General Cyrilo, Col. Bangasi’s participation in the National Dialogue process would greatly boost its chances of success and would greatly elevate the role of Equatoria in deciding South Sudan’s future.
